Ira Glass, 1991. BALLING OUT OF CONTROL.
On Jordan Jesse Go, we are offering a bounty to whoever actually sends us a copy of this article from the Chicago Tribune about him cutting his hair.
(Also: if you’re wondering, Ira Glass is the fucking greatest. We are not making fun of Ira Glass. In 1991, I had a tail, like THE KARATE KID.)
SKEPTICISM. I wish it were a part of some required curricula in youth education.
Instead, our education system asks everyone to never question a belief. It is supposedly wrong and disrespectful to question someone if they are offended. Science teachers have been asked not to teach Evolution out of fear that it will offend their Judeo-Christian audience. To appease the children who come home and complain to their parents about learning Evolution, every other child is withheld the information and deprived of a proper education.
Our young people are learning from adults a set of beliefs that is not to be questioned. To guard these beliefs at all costs from anyone who wishes to challenge them. To ignore the evidence against them.
What a damn shame. Let the evidence shape your beliefs. Think rationally. An educated man/woman should have their minds changed about something they believe strongly at some point or another by evidence.
“Belief” is the default. Science and skepticism are unnatural. Educate yourselves.
Question everything!
The best thing about science is that it teaches you how to think.
